The Shed

Jenn Bliss, an interior designer and stylist, found herself between projects, amidst the search for a dream property and expecting another child. The Shed project was created, transforming an existing shed built 30 years ago on her husband’s family property, into a temporary home for their family of five. Embracing a cottage-style aesthetic, the space celebrates imperfections and history, with a focus on restoration. Existing frames, uneven concrete flooring, and the original blueprint were preserved wherever possible, while new walls and infrastructure were added where needed.

“TradCo have a beautiful range of heritage and classic profiles and will always be a favourite of mine as an interior designer and stylist.”

Inspired by European design that celebrates home restorations, the goal for The Shed was to source recycled and pre-loved items wherever possible. The process of sourcing, restoring, and respecting vintage elements was an incredibly rewarding process. Each piece has a story to tell and is full of beautiful imperfections, cherishing each piece for the character it brings to the space. The space was kept beautifully neutral, with white walls, a painted concrete floor and warm beige pavers throughout the home.

TradCo’s Antique Brass hardware was chosen to bring warmth to the home and complement the ‘lived in’ feel of the space. The door and window hardware used, pays homage to the history of the property. TradCo’s Traditional Light Switches and Classic Wooden Blocks bring the ‘restored’ vision to life. As an interior designer, Jess found it nearly impossible to source vintage pieces like these and TradCo’s range of heritage and classic profiles suited her project perfectly.
