The Pocket Land
Overview
The Pocket Land is a serene family home tucked away into the quiet of Reesville, in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast Hinterland—where a lifelong dream of country living came true for couple Alana and Alex. For Alana, a former professional dancer and costume designer, this home marks a personal shift from the fast pace of creative industries to a slower, more connected life close to nature.

In 2020, after searching for an old character home to renovate, a rare opportunity appeared: 19 acres of untouched land once home to a short-range aircraft navigation tower, just outside the town of Maleny. Though the home was built from scratch, the vision was never about creating something new—it was about crafting something that felt like it had always belonged.
Drawing inspiration from classic country homes, The Pocket Land blends timeless character with the ease of modern living. Over the three years leading up to the build, the couple thoughtfully sourced both antique and contemporary materials, choosing finishes that would develop richness and patina over time—like raw brass, natural stone, and recycled timbers. The result is a home designed to grow and change with family life, offering beauty that evolves with the years.
Every room in the house carries its own quiet sense of history. Local artists and makers across New South Wales and Queensland were commissioned to craft custom pieces—from bathroom vanities and benchtops to a handmade laundry stand—each created from reclaimed timber and made to last. These personal touches help give the home its distinct character and soul.
One of the first decisions made after finalising the floor plan was selecting Tradco’s Antique Brass hardware. These heritage-inspired pieces now frame the doors, windows, and cabinetry throughout the home—subtle yet striking accents that highlight custom joinery and reflect the warm light of the hinterland. The Richmond Knob, with its timeless silhouette, features prominently on interior doors, while Classic Drawer Pulls anchor cabinetry with a quiet confidence.
Completing the picture, Traditional Light Switches—classic in form and intuitive to the touch. Far more than functional details, these elements shape how the space feels: traditional, considered, and deeply comforting.
With its handcrafted details, thoughtful materials, and connection to place, The Pocket Land isn’t just a house—it’s a family story told in timber, brass, and stone. Every choice reflects a desire to live meaningfully and to create a home that feels as though it has always been there, nestled in the heart of the Australian bush.
