Port Cottage

Overview

After falling in love with what was a run-down weatherboard cottage in the coastal village of Port Campbell, Georgie and Richard Selman bought what is now named Port Cottage in 2020. The cottage was renovated to ensure it could withstand many more decades in the harsh environment the Shipwreck Coast is famous for.

The wild Southern Ocean, rugged limestone cliffs and memories of childhood holidays by the sea inspired the renovation of Port Cottage. The renovation happened during the pandemic lockdown, which on reflection really put into focus the desire to create a space that was warm, strong and comforting.

With the help of interior decorator and stylist, Belle Hemming Bright, the Selman’s took inspiration from the colours of the coastline’s cliffs, the ocean, and florals in the national park only metres from the front door of the cottage.

When it came to choosing fixtures and fittings, that meant making use of things that were already present and then filling the gaps with products that helped tell Selman’s story.

The harsh weather conditions also meant that there was no place for products that weren’t well made and TradCo’s aged brass products provided the ideal worn but sturdy look, tying in seamlessly with elements in the cottage.

With many interiors now based around what’s trending, it can be difficult to source fittings that suit older homes. TradCo’s range is unique in this respect and suited the heritage of the cottage perfectly.
