Corner Cottage
Overview
For this Victorian cottage renovation, the owners ensured that small elements were valued as highly as large ones, making for a holiday rental drenched in heritage and authenticity.
Retrofitting a heritage property takes care, patience and a good deal of research. It’s important to make sure the new inclusions fit seamlessly into the folds of the space, even when they weren’t there originally, while discreetly delivering modern comforts that allow the house to feel old-world in character, but easy to live in.
Corner Cottage in North East Victoria’s Alpine Shire town of Bright does just this. It was renovated in 2021, and has since been made available as a holiday let. The cottage itself dates from the 1940s and the new interior leans into the building’s history, with vintage-inspired features like tongue and groove wall panels, clawfoot bath and wood-burning stove. Elements like recycled hardwood benchtops, pressed tin panelling and even a repurposed concrete farm sink in the laundry keep the sense of history flowing throughout.
The generous verandah features wooden benches: perfect for whiling away the evening, just as its original owners might have done almost a century ago. Inside, though, reverse-cycle air conditioning keeps temperatures comfortable, and double glazing seals it in—concepts those same owners could only have dreamed of having.
The designers decided to use TradCo hardware to seal the deal on their heritage vision for the cottage, peppering the property with pieces that feel and look historic, with a sense of quality with every touch. From components as subtle as Single Robe Hooks, Sash Fasteners and Stainless Steel Sash Lifts to more pronounced features like back plated Milton Levers and Knobs for the classic, panelled doors, it’s small elements like these that take a traditional property like this from a place of renovation to one of restoration.
Milton Lever - Long Backplate
The classically crafted Milton Lever is inspired by the ornate styles of the Victorian era. Its elegantly curved silhouette offers expressive yet refined ornamentation, featuring an upturned lever profile. For renovators seeking to honour early 20th-century architecture, the Milton Lever is a fitting choice for Federation and Edwardian homes built between 1840-1915.

Milton Knob - Long Backplate
Influenced by classic English hardware design during the early 20th-century, the Milton Knob features a rounded form lightly bound within a refined rim. For those seeking to reintroduce heritage integrity within their home, the Milton Knob complements Federation and Edwardian homes built between 1901-1920, and California-style Bungalows built between 1915-1940. Its graceful profile is also suited to interpretations of traditional designs, including Modern Farmhouse.
